Hello Students and Staff,
I hope you are doing well and being patient with online schooling. I am sure you are all disappointed that we are not coming back to school this school year. I know the staff and I are disappointed that we are not going to be able to finish out the school year in the regular fashion, but we remain committed to your education, so please continue to stay home and stay safe.
Schooling and Grading Update: Your teachers are still working hard to provide lessons, activities and projects for you that are engaging and informative during your online school experience. Surprisingly, there are only 19 school days left in this school year. Keep it up, we are almost done. We are here for you. Please reach out if you are struggling to keep up or do not understand how to complete something. Your teachers are here to help! Grading is based on direction from the district and state office and things have changed as we process through this journey. Grades are being updated in ASPIRE and if you have completed less than 50% of the work in a class, you will see an “I” for Incomplete in the grade book. All I’s will need to be made up. The process for making up an incomplete will be shared with you as soon as we have worked the details for this out.
Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony Update: The 8th grade promotion committee has decided to put together a virtual farewell promotion ceremony for the 8th graders. If you are an 8th grader, Mr. Secrist or Ms. Grout will be providing you with the information about your participation in this “virtual graduation” project. That information will be assigned in their Google Classroom, so stay tuned in Google Classroom for more information.
Regular End of the Year Activities: Locker clean out, yearbook distribution and Chromebook return, will all happen by appointment the last week of school May 26-29. At this point in time, this will have to be done in a scattered fashion with a minimal number of students in the building at once. There will be more information about this process as the time gets closer and based on recommendations from health officials. The process for this will be shared as soon as the details are worked out.
Please continue to complete your course work and finish out the year strong! Reach out to your teachers and other GCMS staff, if you need help, we are all here to support you!!!
Sincerely,
Principal Caylor
