Starting February 14

College and Career Readiness (CCR) Meetings for 8th Grade:

Students and parent/guardian will meet with the school counselor to:

Review academic performance and class schedule
Utilize YouScience to research career interests and classes at GCHS that will help students explore their interests
Discuss the CTE Pathways offered at Grand County High School
Build a four-year plan for high school and beyond
Pre-register for 9th grade classes

Starting November 28

Reality Town offers a chance for students to learn how to manage their personal money and what is needed to earn a living, for some, raise a family and experience some of the financial responsibility of being an adult. Each student was given a job and a life scenario for someone in the workforce at about age 30. They could be married, single with children, a single parent or any number of other life situations. Ms. Gebhart, the GCMS guidance counselor, puts in a lot of time and effort to ensure the success of this program and many community members volunteer to make this event successful. The students had a great time!

Volunteers Needed for Reality Town

Volunteers are needed to help students as they move from station to station in this simulation of adult roles and responsibilities. Students select an occupation according to career interests, earn a paycheck, and make financial decisions. Students see how much is deducted for taxes, social security, Medicare, and any student loan debt as well as other expenses. They have a family scenario and make financial decisions about housing, transportation, insurance, and many more. Please email Stacy Gebhart if you are available to help on that day.

So why would we suggest you add another thing to that list by joining a student organization? Because it can impact your career and student experience in a hugely positive way. Student organizations have a lot to offer. Whether you join as a member or choose to lead one, simply taking part in an extracurricular group will enhance your school experience. Gaining skills, making connections, and broadening your knowledge through a student organization will help you become a more well-rounded individual — one that’s ready to take on their future career!
